The statue was named after its donor Ignacije Amerling man who financed a lot of other construction works in the city. It was built in the year 1900 by Croatian sculptor Ivan Rendic. On the top of the fountain is a scene from a pastoral play ‘Dubravka’ written by famous Dubrovnik poet Ivan Gundulic. Here you can see a woman named Stojka fighting a man called Wolf who looks like a devil if you ask me, and who holds a sheep. The story goes how he tried to steal this sheep to feed himself, but she caught him. She held his beard and horns until he let the sheep go.
